A Modern Destination Along the Garden State Parkway

Project Overview

The newly constructed Monmouth Service Area is, at first glance, a fresh take on a traditional 15,800sf travel plaza situated between the North- and South-bound highways at Mile Marker 100 of the New Jersey Garden State Parkway.

Boasting artwork that captures elements distinctive to the Jersey Shore, such as sails hung across the ceiling, this facility encompasses much more than just an ordinary travel plaza. Modern food concepts as well as a new fueling station and revamped commuter lot have transformed this facility into more than just a stop for weary motorists, but a destination for Jersey residents near and far. In an effort to minimize the amount of disruption to travelers, the rest stop was shut down after Labor Day and had a strict opening deadline prior to Memorial Day Weekend. Among the typical challenges faced with performing construction during difficult winter months, this project was tactically phased to maintain safe, uninterrupted access to an active daily commuter lot and bus service program at all times.
